Belle Grove joins Winchester-Frederick County Civil War Geo-trail

What better way to commemorate our area’s Sesquicentennial Anniversary of the Civil War than with a Civil War geo-trail!  The Winchester-Frederick County Convention and Visitors Bureau created the new tourist attraction to lead people to local historical sites by way of geocaching.  Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices.  Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then search the site to find the geocache (container) hidden there.  Interested in geocaching at a hobby?  Visit www.geocaching.com for more information.

This trail is comprised of 20 cache sites that are part of the Virginia Civil War Trails Program.  The first 40 cachers that find 10 of the 20 sites will be awarded a special bag of Civil War themed prizes from the trail sponsor, the Winchester-Frederick County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Each cache will have a code word that must be written down, either on paper or the official Winchester-Frederick County Civil War Trail playlist. Playlist can be picked up from the Visitors Center or download your copy here. Once you have completed the trail and written down the code word for each site, head over to the Winchester-Frederick County Visitors Center at 1400 S. Pleasant Valley Road, Winchester, VA 22601. The Visitors Center is open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., closed on major holidays. The code words will be verified and you will receive your special Civil War themed prize bag after filling out a very short informational card.

Please search for this cache only between the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
