Winchester-Fredrick County Civil War Weekend

Winchester-Frederick County sites will host a wide variety of events about the Civil War history of the Shenandoah Valley. At Belle Grove Plantation there will be:

Saturday, August 18, 11:30am
“Battle of Cedar Creek in a Box”
Meet on the front lawn of Belle Grove (336 Belle Grove Road, Middletown, VA).
A 30 minute overview of the Battle of Cedar Creek using props and the actual landscape to explain the campaign and battle.

Saturday, August 18, 2:30pm
“Kneading in Silence: A Glimpse into the Life Judah the Enslaved Cook”
Meet at Belle Grove (336 Belle Grove Road, Middletown, VA).
A 30 minute program on the life of Judah, the enslaved cook at Belle Grove.
Cost: Free

Saturday, August 18, 3-3:30pm
Update on Archaeology of the Slave Quarter Site at Belle Grove
Belle Grove Plantation Manor House Lower Level (336 Belle Grove Road, Middletown, VA).
Belle Grove just concluded its fourth field season of archaeology in the area where slave quarters were located. Come hear what has been discovered!

Sunday, August 19, 2:30pm
