Free Day of Admission to Welcome “Give Me Liberty” Exhibit

In honor of Belle Grove hosting the Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation traveling exhibit, the site will be open with special activities on Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission free of charge thanks to a sponsorship from the Winchester-Frederick County Virginia 250

10:00 a.m.                   
Belle Grove opens 

10:00 a.m.-4 p.m.        

  • Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation traveling exhibit (lower level of the Manor House, enter under the front porch)
  • Self-guided tours of the Manor House (enter on front porch)
  • Family friendly activities: quill pen writing, wax seal stamping, coloring and activity sheet, period games (front lawn or in the case of inclement weather upper level of Beverley B. Shoemaker Welcome Center)
  • Col. James Wood II Chapter Sons of the American Revolution display (front lawn or in the case of inclement weather upper level of Beverley B. Shoemaker Welcome Center)
  • Museum Shop open

11 a.m.                        
Presentation of Colors, Musket Salute, and Pledge of Allegiance, Col. James Wood II Chapter Sons of the American Revolution (front lawn)

1 p.m.                          
For the Cause of Liberty, presentation by Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park Ranger, Christopher Mattingly about how Isaac Hite Jr. of Belle Grove Plantation and his family members and neighbors come to rebel against their King (upper level of Beverley B. Shoemaker Welcome Center)

 

Give Me Liberty: Virginia & The Forging of a Nation is the signature exhibition of the Virginia America Revolution 250 Commission and organized in partnership by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation and the Virginia Museum of History & Culture.
