Battle of Cedar Creek Commemoration Weekend

Belle Grove will host educational and commemoration events for the 154th Anniversary of the Battle of Cedar Creek on October 20 and 21, 2018. Belle Grove will be open Saturday, October 20, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, October 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for living history, house tours, and ranger programs.

Admission is $5 for those 13 and older. Admission will be free for those 12 and younger as well as Belle Grove and National Trust for Historic Preservation members with a current membership card. Admission will be sold at the gate; cash and credit cards accepted.

The Belle Grove Manor House will be open for touring. The 1797 home of the Hite family served as Union General Philip Sheridan’s Headquarters during the Battle of Cedar Creek and survived being at the epicenter of the battle. There will be living historians throughout the building discussing civilian life during the Civil War. The Ordnance Detachment of the Civil War Dance Foundation will also have an exhibit weapons and replica flags.

On the lawn, there will be living history and demonstrations by the 10th Virginia Volunteer  Infantry (see schedule below). On Sunday, there will be live Civil War era music performed by John Tole.
