Descendants’ Day in Honor of Juneteenth

Join us as we celebrate the legacy of our free and enslaved ancestors through food, faith, stories, and music. This event is free of charge.

9-11 a.m.  Walnut Springs Christian Church, 1905 Oranda Road, Strasburg, Virginia 22657
Hear the story of Benjamin Tanny a man enslaved at Belle Grove who was baptized and joined this church in 1831.

  • Service by Walnut Springs Pastor Rev. Wendall Schurtz and Mount Zion United Methodist Church Head Pastor Rev. Patti Page Brown
  • Memorial walk along Meadow Mills Road, the route that Mr. Tanny would have taken to walk the two miles to church. The walk will be less than 1/2 mile. 
  • Light refreshments
