Open House at Fort Bowman/Harmony Hall

On Sunday, August 21 from 1-5 p.m., Belle Grove will have Fort Bowman open for touring. This is a free event. It is being hosted with the Strasburg Heritage Association as part of the 250th Anniversary of Shenandoah County.

This home is owned by Belle Grove Inc. and is not typically open to the public. It was the home of George Bowman and Mary Hite Bowman, the uncle and aunt of Isaac Hite Jr. of Belle Grove. While the Bowmans lived on the property since they came to the Valley in the 1730s with the first European settling party, the limestone home dates to ca. 1771. It is an example of a German architecture blending with English architecture.

Fort Bowman is located at 242 Fort Bowman Road, Strasburg,  close to the north Strasburg entrance to I-81. Turn as if you going into the Shell Station with the 7-11 store and Fort Bowman Road is on the north end of that parking area. The private road can only accommodate one direction of traffic at a time so there will be someone to meet guests and monitor traffic. Please carpool if possible as parking is limited.
