Opening Day
Belle Grove Plantation will 0pen for 2025 season on Saturday, March 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. with discount admission of $5 for those 12 and older. Purchase tickets in the Beverley B. Shoemaker Welcome Center.
The historic 1797 Manor House will be open for self-guided touring with docents located around the building to provide information and answer questions.
Newly on display this year will be a replica of the dress that Nelly Madison Hite wears in her 1799 portrait. The younger sister of James Madison, she married Isaac Hite Jr. of Belle Grove in 1783. In the portrait, Nelly was 29 and wearing the high fashion of her day--a dress of opulent imported silk. Come learn what we have discovered about Nelly as we have worked on a new research project about her life and the lives of the enslaved women who served as her childcare workers. There will be a special preview day on Friday, March 14--tickets available here.
Make sure to stop in to the Belle Grove Museum Shop! It is all stocked for the spring holidays and is the perfect place to find gifts and great local products.
Starting Sunday, March 16, Belle Grove will resume regular hours:
