Plant Life in the Shenandoah Valley
Richard Stromberg will present a lecture on native plants discussed in the article "Plant Life of the Shenandoah Valley" by the esteemed local Botanist Lena Artz (1891-1976) (such as Yellow Fringed Orchid Platanthera ciliaris pictured here).
This article was reprinted in a booklet published by the National Trust for Historic Preservation when Belle Grove had newly become a historic site in their portfolio and was opened to the public as a museum in the late 1960s.
Mr. Stromberg is a Master Gardener Emeritus who has taught many classes on native plants. He is an avid hiker who has given guided trail talks in the Shenandoah Valley. He is also a member of the Virginia Native Plant Society and supports cleaning the trails and to combat invasive plants.
The event will include coffee, tea, and desserts and the chance to win native shrubs as a door prize!
The Sunday, February 11, 1-3 p.m. event is sold out but the speaker has graciously offered to conduct it again on Sunday, February 18, 1-3 p.m. Registration is $15.
